Flying gliders is a very challenging and satisfying form of model airplane flying. It combines the need for competent flying skills, thermal reading skills and tactical thinking. F3K gliders add the element of the hand launch, which adds to the fun and the challenge.

We have some of the best pilots in the world, in South Africa. In the F3K world champs in Ukraine in 2017, Tiaan Van Rooyen won the junior world champion title and Alan Smith came 4th in the seniors. You could be the next world champ too!
We have pilots flying various kinds and classes of gliders around the country for fun and in competitions and we’d love you to join our ranks.
To start off you will need basic remote control flying skills. And then a glider with radio transmitter. After that you will need to hone your skills as a thermal hunter. And learn about the various competition flying tasks.

- They are small enough to put in your car, making them easy and convenient (and to take on holiday with you)
- The don't need huge open spaces to fly them so you'll have more flying opportunities (but please remember to keep things safe at all times)
- They are not as expensive as their bigger brothers (but you will still need to invest a few thousand rand to get a competitive one)
- The logistics are minimal - all you need is a charged battery and you are ready to fly - no need for cables or bungees to get into the air.
